There is a lot to consider when selecting a new water heater for your home. You should choose a water heating system that will provide enough hot water for your needs and will do so as efficiently as possible.

WATER HEATERS

Saving energy will save you money, as well as being good for our planet. Options to consider include the different types of water heaters available and determining the right size and fuel source for your home.

Heating water accounts for approximately 15 to 25 percent of a home’s energy use. High efficiency water heaters use 10 to 50 percent less energy than standard models, saving homeowners money on their utility bills. Actual energy savings from high efficiency water heaters depend on family size, heater location and water usage.

Some of the high efficiency water heaters qualify for incentives to help offset the initial cost. Check the following websites for more info:

Conventional storage water heaters (gas and electric)

In storage tank water heaters, water is kept hot and ready for use at all times in insulated storage tanks with capacities ranging from 20 to 80 gallons.

Tankless water heaters with on-demand

With this type of water heater, water circulates through a large coil and is heated only on demand using gas or electricity.

Heat Pump Water Heaters

Heat pump water heaters use electricity to move heat from one place to another instead of generating heat directly. Therefore, they can be two to three times more energy efficient than conventional electric resistance water heaters.

Condensing Gas Water Heaters (tank style)

Condensing gas water heaters work much like standard water heaters. A large insulated tank of water is heated by a gas burner. But a condensing heater’s efficiency and performance is significantly increased by capturing combustion gases for increased heating of water instead of merely venting them to the outside of your house.

There are many factors to consider when determining the appropriate water heater for your home or business. Give us a call and we can discuss which option might be best for you.
